Necessities, Improvements and Enhancements for
Gulf Shores Elementary School

I. Phase I- Immediate Areas of Concern
    A. New Playground
        1. Baldwin County Board of Education expenditure- $0
        2. Additional needs will include:
            a. Playground equipment, delivery, and installation
                 (Approximate cost- $50,000)
            b.  Dirt and drainage - $25,000

UPDATE: 2/28/09
THE GSES PTSO, FABULOUS PARENTS, AND FANTASTIC ADMINISTRATION HAVE WORKED TO RAISE THE $50,000 NEEDED FOR THEIR PLAYGROUND IN JUST 7 MONTHS!!!!!!  WHAT AN INCREDIBLE SHOW OF SUPPORT!!!

    B. Grounds Maintenance
        1. Baldwin County Board of Education expenditure- (No dollars available)

        2. Additional needs will include:
           a. Landscaping – Phase I - $15,000
           b. Sprinkler system – Phase I - $7,000
          
c. Privacy Fence around dumpsters - $4,000
           d. Sidewalk to access cafeteria - $5,000
    C. Buildings Maintenance
       
1.  Baldwin County Board of Education expenditure – (No dollars  avail.)
       
2.  Additional needs will include:
           
a. Signage on building - $1,500

       2. Additional needs will include:
           a. Basic package per classroom (approx. cost $2,000 per classroom)

              c. Landscaping Phase III - Sod, installed and delivered - $5,000

 Below is the outline for Phase I and Phase II:

I.  Phase I

    A. Computer Lab (for teachers and students)

 The county is currently working on this item, and we have been told that the new computer will be completely covered by the county funds.

COMPUTER LAB IS COMPLETE AND WAS PROVIDED BY THE BALDWIN COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION!

  B.  Computers for the Library once the new computer lab is complete.

   C.  Continuing Grounds Improvement- Landscaping, plants, etc.

GATES CONSTRUCTION POURED EXTRA CONCRETE AT THE SITE OF OUR CARPOOL LINE IN ORDER TO IMPROVE AND WIDEN THE LANE!  WITH A DONATION OF AZALEAS FROM KUTTER, MR FOUNTAIN PLANTED NEW SHRUBS, AS WELL!!

II.  Phase II

     A.  Promethean Board for   computer lab
   This is an additional cost to the lab ($2,000) that will not be covered by county funds.
PROMETHEANS WERE PROVIDED THROUGH FUNDS FROM THE ERIE MEYER FOUNDATION. THANK YOU!

   B.  Covered Pavilion at the break area- approximate cost- $10-$15,000

   This is needed to give shade and cover to the middle school students as they wait in car-pool lines and as they enjoy their break area

    C. Continuing Grounds Improvement

GSHS “Wish List”

I.  Pre engineering program
     --includes equipment, teacher unit, upgrades to the   old music room

II. Additional foreign language teacher

III. Security cameras for the new wing and smaller monitors in the administrators’ offices

IV. A filter pump for our sprinkler system. It’s working but has a lot of iron in the water (similar to the pump purchased by the City of Gulf Shores).

V.  Books for the library.

( We are currently awaiting the approval of a $5000 request for books made to the Alabama Gulf Coast Education Foundation.

   OUR GULF COAST EDUCATION FOUNDATION HAS PROVIDED $5000 FOR THE PURCHASE OF NEW LIBRARY BOOKS IN ADDITION TO A NEW SOUND SYSTEM FOR THE CAFETERIA!!!

VI. Promethean, e-beams, and smart boards for the classrooms.

(As noted, the cost for a Promethean package begins at about $2000 per classroom. This includes the board, the software, the pens, and installation. It is our desire to provide Prometheans to our Math and Science classrooms first in order to boost test scores in those areas.    THE ALABAMA GULF COAST EDUCATION FOUNDATION HAS DONATED $10,000 TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF PROMETHEAN BOARDS FOR THE ENTIRE 2ND GRADE AT OBES AND THE PURCHASE OF THE DVD FOR THE PLANETARIUM!!!
